About this test

The Enneagram describes nine personality types, each built around a core motivation, such as wanting to be good, to be loved or to feel safe. Many people use it as a tool for self-reflection and personal growth. This test uses 45 statements we wrote ourselves, five for each type. Your report shows your highest-scoring type, a possible wing and your scores across all nine, so you can see the blend rather than a single label.

What the research says

The Enneagram is a framework for self-reflection. It is not a scientifically validated personality measure, and this test has not been checked for reliability or accuracy. We wrote all 45 statements ourselves, around the core motivations of the nine types. Please don't use your result for clinical, hiring or other important decisions. If you want a research-based description of your personality, our Big Five tests are the better choice.

    Questions about this test

    Is the Enneagram scientific?

Not in the way the Big Five is. The Enneagram is a popular framework for self-reflection, but it has not been validated as a personality measure, and our 45 questions are our own. Treat your result as a starting point for thinking about yourself, and don't use it for clinical, hiring or other important decisions. For a research-based profile, try our Big Five tests.

    What is a wing?

In Enneagram theory, the nine types sit around a circle, and the two types on either side of yours are its possible wings. We show the neighboring type you scored higher on as your wing, written like 4w5 (Type 4 with a 5 wing).

    How is it scored?

There are five statements for each type, and all of them are worded so that agreeing points toward that type. Each type gets a score from 0 to 100, and your highest score is your likely main type. If two types score close together, read both descriptions and see which fits you better.

Why might another Enneagram test give me a different type?

Different tests use different questions and scoring, so results often vary from one test to the next. Your mood and situation when you answer matter too. If your top scores are close together, it's normal for the result to shift.
